Laura is a registered dental hygienist who clinically practices, teaches, consults, and is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA).
She is on the advisory board and adjunct faculty at Howard Community College Dental Hygiene Program, where she previously served as the clinical coordinator, and taught on topics of radiology, ethics & jurisprudence, public health, and local anesthesia.
Interested in healthcare, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology with a minor in biology from Elon University in 2008.
Attending the 2006 Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) at University of Virgina, she realized dentistry was her calling.
After working in privatre practice as a dental assitant and receptionist, she continued her education at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) with a bachelor of science in dental hygiene, earning the Bertha Morgan Scholarship in 2011 and Linda daVore Professional Integrity Award in 2012.
Currently enrolled at Old Dominion University, Laura will earn a masters degree in dental hygiene, with a focus on public health. Her non-thesis defense is on oral heath and cannabis.
A member since 2010, Laura has served the ADHA in many roles, most notably as the unofficial AV gal at meetings, and President for the Maryland Dental Hygienists’ Association (MDHA) in 2014. In 2016, she was the ADHA recipient of the Esther Wilkins Future Leader Award. She served as chair of the MDHA Dental Hygiene Well-Being committee from 2020-2024.
Her passions of dental hygiene include oral health literacy, providing culturally appropriate and compassionate care, teaching our next generation of dental hygienists, infection control, lasers, and wellness.
